Spark Electrode Discharge Machining (EDM)

CNC Spark Erosion, also known as Sinker EDM, consists of an electrode and workpiece submerged in dialectric fluid. As the electrode nears the workpiece a plasma channel is formed, a spark bridges the gap and the base metal is vapourised. This creates a 3D inverse image of the electrode on the workpiece.

This allows for complex cavities and blind holes to be formed that otherwise could not be machined by conventional methods.

Our CNC Spark Erosion facility offers the following:

  • Machining tolerances of up to 0.010mm
  • In house machining of intricate parts
  • Broken taps & easy outs removed
  • All types of steels including Inconel, Duplex, Aluminium, Bronze, Carbide and Titanium basically any condutive materials

Spark Erosion can be used for processes ranging from the simple removal of a broken tap to shafts, stems and sleeves for the oil exploration industry and complex curved impellors.
